In the current Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic situation in India, there has been an adverse impact on livelihoods and earnings of poor disabled people who are generally daily wage earners. Families of deafblind people are extremely vulnerable and often have very meagre savings. Sense India intends to support families of deafblind by distributing ration kits that will have food items that will last for a month (for a family of 4) and hygiene products to keep them healthy and safe in pandemic.
In the current milieu of uncertainty due to ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, the condition is grave for persons with complex disabilities like deafblindness and multiple disabilities i.e. having epilepsy, heart disease, respiratory problems. The major concern is availability of basic food items as many of them belong to low income strata. Making situation worse, many people have lost their jobs and sources of livelihood. Adults and children with disabilities have to bear brunt due to loss of earnings.
Sense India will support by providing ration kits to those families where there are single non-earning parent, fathers who have lost their job during lockdown, parents who themselves are aged and cannot step out, families who have spent their entire savings during lockdown. It will help them to meet their immediate need of having two meals a day to feed themselves and add-on their immunity to fight against the pandemic and protect them from falling prey to COVID-19 due to malnourishment.
Your donation will help 250 families of deafblind children to build their immune system and make them stronger. This will not only protect them from falling prey to this pandemic but also give them the space to think about and look for other means of livelihood and earnings so that in future they are able to sustain their families and take good care of the family members with deafblindness and multiple disabilities. This will allow and help their child to live a fuller life.
