Great Results

I am very happy to be able to report that, at the time of writing this report, 155 of the 170 desks have been financed, made and are already being used by our pupils and students. This thanks to the generosity and support of not only the GlobalGiving supporters but also of others whom have responded to our other fundraising efforts for this project. This project is thus coming to an end very shortly.

Why this project was necessary

After almost 2 years of closure the schools in Uganda were finally allowed to reopen in January 2022. The pandemic has caused the country to be in lockdown for a long time. In fact the school closure in Uganda was the longest in the world, 83 weeks.

Our campus was also allowed to open its doors again after the long closure. The campus consists of a kindergarten*, primary school, a secondary school and a vocational school.
In total,850 pupils receive education here.

* This Day Care and  Kindergarten, SAM, is our main project on GLOBALGIVING. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/vulnerable-children-daycare-preschool-education/

Achievements

The reopening of the schools was is accompanied by a  number of new rules and regulations. One of the conditions is that each child must have his own desk.

A "single desk unit" consists of a desk and chair in one. This furniture is handmade from wood, is very sturdy and lasts for years. Where possible we have reused wood and other materials in order to lessen the environmental effects of this project and to be cost effective.

The purchase of these single desk units was of great importance not only to  be able to meet the conditions of the Ugandan government but in addition, by sitting separately, the students can also keep a better distance from each other and thus prevent them from infecting each other with Covid-19 and other infectious diseases.  Thus preventing possible outbreaks of sickness at the school and the children having to be absent from lessons.

Who we are

Kinderhulp Afrika is a Christian charitable organization that has been looking after the most vulnerable children in Uganda since 1987. The 850 (orphan) children currently on the campus in Namugongo are taken care of in a safe environment. Here they receive the love and care they deserve, housing, medical and spiritual care, primary education and a secondary or vocational training so that they can become independent and empower them to stand on their own two feet after completing their education.

And Finally… Please Keep Informed and involved.

This our motto; “FROM HELPLESS TO HOPEFUL”!

If you have any questions our would like more information about the vital work our charity is doing in Uganda in helping Helpless children to receive a Hopeful future then please do not hesitate to contact the office via the website or myself personally, jill@kinderhulp-afrika.nl, I would love to hear from you.

Thank you for your support and for taking the time to read this report!
