At TOLFA Animal Hospital, we typically care for around 25 dogs suffering from severe mange at any given time. This project aims to purchase a dog grooming bath and protective clothing to enhance care for dogs with mange, a condition that causes severe itching, hair loss, and can eventually lead to fatal infections. The grooming bath will allow for more efficient mange treatment, reducing stress for both dogs and staff, ultimately meaning we can help more dogs recover from mange.
Mange is a parasitic skin condition causing severe itching and hair loss and can even lead to fatal infections from scratch wounds. To eradicate mange, we administer anti-parasitic injections and medicated baths once a week. We typically have around 25 dogs with mange requiring treatment at the hospital. Applying the anti-parasitic solution is a time-consuming and stressful process for both the dogs and staff, as we must pour the solution over them and thoroughly massage it in.
This project seeks to purchase a dog grooming bath and protective clothing to enhance our care for dogs with mange. Using the purpose-built bath will allow us to dip the lower half of the dogs in the medicated bath, more easily targeting hard-to-reach areas. This approach reduces stress for the dogs and physical strain for our staff, therefore making the process more efficient, which ultimately means we will be able to help more dogs return to good health.
In 2023, TOLFA helped 13,375 animals through our Rescue & Care Project, utilising two ambulances and an on-the-street treatment vehicle seven days a week. For unowned animals in the area, we serve as their last hope when they fall ill or get injured. This project aims to improve mange treatment for dogs using a dog grooming bath to make the process easier and more efficient, resulting in less stress for the dogs and our team. Ultimately meaning we can help more dogs to recover from mange.
