Summary

The Amazon is burning at a rate and with an intensity never seen in the past 10 years. The fires are affecting indigenous communities - the forest is their home. Animals burn, medicinal plants burn, fruit trees burn. The Amazon is helping regulate the climate of our entire planet. Any intact patch of forest matters. This project will help an indigenous community combat and contain the fires in Xingu Indigenous Park. Xingu is on the deforestation belt, the epicenter of soy and cattle ranching

Challenge

This is your chance to directly help an indigenous community in the Amazon fight contain the fires spreading in their protected reserve. The Amazon fires are making the news all over the globe. Many organizations list things to do to help the Amazon. One of them is to support indigenous communities affected. Here is your chance to help!

Solution

The Kamaiura live on the deforestation belt, where fires set by soy and cattle landlords are raging. These fires spread in the protected reserve, turning the forest to ashes. The Kamaiura have a fire brigade trained to combat and contains fires. They are dispatching their firefighters to contain fires, so that their forest does not burn down. What they need is gasoline in order to reach the fires: they need to travel by motorcycle or by boat (in some cases, by both) to where the fires are.

Long-Term Impact

Their ability to fight the fires depends on the availability of gasoline. If the indigenous fire brigade is able to contain the fires, the forest will be kept intact. This will help not only Xingu, not only the Amazon, but it will help us ensure we keep our planet healthy - for us and for our future generations.
