Two decades after apartheid it is still the case that the life chances of the average South African child are determined not by their ability or the result of hard-work and determination, but instead by the color of their skin, the province of their birth, and the wealth of their parents. In South Africa, for every 100 students that start school in grade 1, only 48 reach the end of high school, where only 36 pass, and only 14 qualify to go to university. Help Ahlume finish high school
Poor families in South Africa, like Ahlume's cannot afford to access quality high schools in South Africa, so children like Ahlume, regardless of how clever and upstanding they may be, can only attend non fee paying government schools, which are notoriously under resourced, have poor discipline, ill equipped teachers, a 40:1 learner to teacher ratio, and often drugs and violence. Donating to support Ahlume to attend high school will see him move closer to his dream of becoming a pilot.
Donating to help Ahlume to attend a quality high' school, will enable him to successfully graduate from high school, and attend university. The first person in his family to do so. Ahlume has been accepted into a quality high school for 2020, however without your support, he won't be able to attend. His mom earns $233 per month, and supports her family of 7. Attending this school is an incredible educational opportunity that will change Ahlume's, and his family's, future forever.
The village where Ahlume lives has produced fewer than 10 university graduates. Through Ahlume attending a quality high school, with your support, he will go onto university (unlike 86% of other children his age) and reach is dream of becoming a pilot, breaking the cycle of poverty he was born into, for himself and his future family. Help us help Ahlume change his future forever.
