Thank you for supporting our project to Connect Children to Wildlife in Cambodia, unfortunately we were not able to raise the full $2,000 we needed to send 75 children on a field trip to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center. However, the $300 you helped us raise will be used for providing art supplies for 20 of the schools that we work with.
Our Mobile Environmental Education Unit, the Kouprey Express, is a bus full of engaging and interactive educational materials that travels throughout the Southern Cardamoms visiting schools and rural villages teaching environmental protection and management. These interactive lessons focus on animal classification and biology; the importance of wildlife and forest conservation; threats facing wildlife; the impacts of extinction, climate change, waste; and how this all fits into the ‘bigger picture.’ To reinforce these classroom lessons, monthly field trips are taken to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center (PTWRC), home to many endangered species, most of whom are rescued victims of the wildlife trade and human-wildlife conflict. These field trips give students, teachers and community members an opportunity to develop a greater understanding and appreciation for wildlife, and witness firsthand the consequences of human actions – and inaction.
Since its inception in 2004, the Kouprey Express has provided environmental and wildlife education to over 35,000 children and teachers and reached almost 100,000 community members. The program has managed to successfully change attitudes and increase interest in biodiversity among schoolchildren, teachers and community members living in or near protected areas.
The Kouprey Express continues to expand their efforts, raising awareness about wildlife conservation to underserved communities throughout Cambodia. Thank you for you generous contribution! You can continue to support the Kouprey's efforts by making a gift to our main project, Empower Studentst to Become Environmental Stewards. To support one of our other community projects, check out our latest micro-campaign Empower Cambodian Women for the Environment.
