This project will provide internet access in Vaga Lume communities in the Amazon, as a means to increase access to reading and, consequently, its positive impact on education and the empowerment of local communities, which are being hugely impacted by COVID-19. Since 2020 Vaga Lume has been gathering donations and delivering food items to children and their families in Amazon. Now, with your help, alongside with food supply, we will help Amazon children access online education!
Vaga Lume is present in 24 rural communities in Amazonas, the most affected state during the COVID-19 pandemic. The restrictions imposed by this endangering scenario made the lack of internet connection even more evident. How will the inhabitants of one of the most important regions for the future of the planet be able to take care of their territory without concrete opportunities to access education? It is necessary to invest in children in the Amazon, the true guardians of the forest!
Alongside the ongoing donation of the delivery of basic food supply for over 2,300 families in Amazon throughout the pandemic, Vaga Lume will implement an Internet Connection project aiming to: (1) Enable internet access in 2 communities in Tefe - AM (pilot project); (2) Identify the main demands and challenges (3) Establish a manual for good practice by communities; (4) Increase the number of readers in the community; (5) Encourage access to new technologies related to reading and education.
Expand internet access in Vaga Lume communities in the Amazon, as a way to increase access to reading and, consequently, its positive impact on education and the empowerment of local communities. With internet connection children will be able to access distance education, digital books, digital tools and learning programmes, overcoming many of the restrictions imposed by COVID-19 and social vulnerability context.
