ALF is helping-1800 women, girls and youth across Jinja City Uganda who lack access to reproductive health services, face child malnutrition, and have limited income opportunities. We solve this through an intergrated model: SRHR clinics and peer education, nutrition screening for children under 5,vocational training and savings groups for income, and tree planting/eco-stoves for sustainability-creating lasting change where health, income, and environment reinforce each other
Limited SRHR access - women and youth lack family planning services, maternal health referrals, and reproductive health education, leading to unplanned pregnancies and poor maternal outcomes. Undetected child malnutrition - no routine screening means malnourished children go unidentified until conditions worsen. Low household income - women and youth lack vocational skills, savings mechanisms, or startup capital, keeping families trapped in poverty. Environmental degradation
ALF addresses reproductive health, nutrition, income, and environmental challenges together - because in Jinja's underserved communities, these problems reinforce one another. Poor reproductive health limits women's ability to work; limited income weakens household nutrition; and environmental strain deepens food insecurity. Solving them in isolation wouldn't break that cycle, so the project intervenes at each link
The project will contribute to sustained reductions in teenage pregnancy, improved reproductive health outcomes, and increased school retention among adolescents in Jinja City. Long-term impacts include empowered youth making informed health decisions, strengthened community support systems, improved access to youth-friendly services, enhanced gender equality, and healthier families, supporting local development goals and breaking cycles of poverty and vulnerability.
