Summer time was a great time for Heal One World. We had the help of two full time volunteers to host events, revamp the studio, and engage the community.
Danielle and Daniela were integral to our summer events: a Prental Yoga and Nutrition workshop, and a Nutrition Demo for People Assisting the Homeless (PATH). Our goal was to educate the community about healthy eating, how affordable healthy eating can be, and how easy it is to cook healthy meals. During our Prenatal workshop, we had a prenatal yoga instructor demostrate and teach a fun workout for the moms to be and a doula and nutritionist came to educate proper nutritionial habits. Our participants learned a lot and went away better informed.
The Nutrition Demo started with a visit to the local farmers market to pick out affordable and fresh vegetables. Then we went to the community room at PATH to prepare a vegan salad with chipeas, tomatoes, cucumbers, and lemon. It was simple and hearty at the same time. Danielle talked about the nutritional value of the foods and we fed 8 people lunch using only $15!
At the end of the summer, we worked together to clean up Heal One World for our annual Open House. All day, our volunteer teachers held short classes for free and we had volunteer Reiki healers give out free sessions. Overall we had about 50 people come through our doors and try something new.
We appreciate everyone that helped and donated their time or money to support these initiatives at Heal One World!
