This Christmas, please consider making a gift to help street children in Rwanda attend school. Our local partner Muko School in Bugarama has made a tremendous effort to enrol and educate over 300 street children, towards a brighter future free from poverty, abuse and crime. The initiative has made a fantastic start, but we need your help to sustain and strengthen it in 2024. Please help bring a little love and care to desperate children in Rwanda with a gift this Christmas.
Street children in Bugarama are extremely deprived and have no one to care for them. They face hunger and starvation and are forced to commit petty crime just to feed themselves. They receive no education and have a bleak future ahead with few employment prospects. The streets are perilous and present multiple threats to their safety. The children's dreadful situation results from family conflicts, abuse and poverty.
Muko School recently began an initiative to improve the wellbeing and prospects of local street children, enrolling over 300 homeless children. However, Muko cannot afford to feed the children; without food they will have to return to the street. Regular children at Muko have lunch money from their families; street children have no such support. HATW is helping Muko to provide street children with two daily meals and educational materials, so these highly disadvantaged children can go to school.
The street children at Muko will be supported to gain qualifications that will improve their access to further education and employment, helping them build a life with a decent standard of living and avoid a future of menial low-paid labour or crime. The project also improves the children's nutritional health and social skills. Muko is developing an agricultural initiative towards the project's future self-sufficiency - but for now we need your help to sustain this brilliant venture.
