This micro-project will provide the village of Dodougou, in Burkina Faso with a modern hand pump (Volanta) to ensure easy access to clean water. Thanks to the main project on GlobalGiving, we're going to drill the borehole and find water (100mt deep). Around 1200 people will benefit from the water. Health and life quality in the community will increase: they will no longer use dirty water or travel long distances to collect clean water, and the soil productivity will increase enormously.
In the village of Dodougou, the handmade wells are shallow and dry out during the 8 months of the dry season. Thus, for the most part of the year, women need to walk long distances to find water, but even then families still have to consume water from ponds and shallows, that cause several diseases, especially among children. This hand pump will give the possibility to collect clean, safe, durable water to the 1200 villagers of Dodougou.
This micro-project will provide the Dodougou villagers with the hand pump needed to bring to the surface the 100mt deep water, found after drilling the borehole. The hand pump provides a sustainable and durable source of drinkable water for all the 1200 villagers, improving the health and living conditions. After the installation of the pump, the village will appoint a committee to guarantee its maintenance and assure its correct usage by all beneficiaries.
The micro-project will lead to the conclusion of the main project and thus helping the community to have clean water not only for its daily life, improving health, but also for helping the villagers out of poverty. The project will foster agricultural income-generating activities, and in particular will increase the sesame's production: the need was indeed brought up by the grassroot women group "Wend-Songda", local sesame producers.
