One of Habibi.Works most sought-after working areas is the barber shop, with 20 appointments/week. Our goal is now to provide the same space for women to share, relax and take care of each other. All financial donations will be used to provide beauty products, to remodel the space, & cover the functioning costs (electricity, building). Any extra money will be dedicated to support team members leading the area and living in the Katsikas refugee camp.
By opening a womens-only area, we aim to improve female participation in Habibi.Works. In response to community requests and seeing the demand for more female-centered activities, we have set up this small fundraiser to enable us to purchase materials and establish a one - year budget for the creation of a womens self-care space.
Aside from providing a space of connection and skills-sharing for women, it will help us understand how the project as a whole could be re-designed to make it more accessible to a currently marginalized group, better centering the needs of all individuals.
Individuals participating in our space have attested to feelings of self-empowerment, increased self-confidence, more balanced mental health, and optimism about their future. Individual agency and creativity have a safe space to thrive. Integration into Greek society is facilitated through positive social encounters and empowered individuals. Habibi.Works provides counternarratives to the limiting view on refugees and asylum-seekers, celebrating the resilience and potential of individuals.
