The Covid-19 Pandemic in South Africa and the resulting 6 months of lockdown have had a huge impact on vulnerable impoverished communities. Huge job losses impact livelihoods, and families are literally struggling to put food on the table for their children. Nourish's goal is to keep providing these vulnerable families with food security over the next few months as the impacts of Covid-19 last. Our sustainability projects like gardens and recycling build long-term resilience in our community.
The challenges the poor face during the Covid-19 pandemic are many. Many 'bread-winners' in marginalized communities have lost their income & are unable to access Government support. Especially adjacent to the Greater Kruger many jobs have been lost without tourism & this loss of income impacts heavily. Families are suffering. We want to support food security & resilience in the wildlife communities, so the lack of options doesn't drive people to 'bushmeat' poaching or wildlife crime.
Providing food parcels with staple food items - allows families to eat...Food on the table & children going to bed not crying in hunger. This is our goal. We have pared these parcels down to the absolute basics, and for $ 15 we can provide each family with SOMETHING. We are at a time when life is not about luxuries, it is about survival and basic human dignity. Your support for this project will allow families to rise above hunger for a month or two; having time to rebuild & find a way forward.
When there are no other ways to provide for your family, things like petty crime, or wildlife crime increase. Survival kicks in. We want to help our list of over 420 families to survive the Covid-19 pandemic, to have food security and to not need to resort to these negative options in order to survive. Protecting our wildlife heritage from the abject poverty on its borders is an important long term impact of feeding these wildlife communities, until tourism can slowly return and provide jobs.
