We are so grateful to you for making it possible to support the children benefitting from ORT SA CAPE's programmes in South Africa.
ORT SA CAPE engages with teachers, educators and principals of schools and early education centres, through a range of different programmes, with the aim of making sure that the children receive a higher quality of education in the classroom.
ORT SA CAPE has also started collaborating with an organisation that works with staff of creches and parents and has been giving training sessions to them too.
Bev from ORT SA CAPE has given us various updates and photos to share with you.
Two of the photos show teachers attending a "Lego Learning through Play" workshop. Following the workshops, the teachers were given Lego playboxes for use in their classrooms, where they can implement the techniques that they learned.
Another photo shows a training session for a programme with an organisation called "Learn to Live". This is part of the collaboration on the parent project that is run in partnership with Early Childhood Development centres.
The pictured activity helps with listening and communication skills, as one person in a pair has to instruct the other on building a Lego tower whilst blindfolded. Lego Six Bricks techniques are also taught. These activities can be used to teach children a range of skills, including language, numeracy, problem solving and collaboration skills.
We were also delighted that your contributions made it possible to help towards a workshop for the children at Rooikappie Educare. CHW has been working with Rooikappie Educare for quite some time, after another of our South African partner organisations, The Future Factory, introduced us to them. We then made the link between Rooikappie and ORT SA CAPE a few years ago. The children from Rooikappie had previously enjoyed educational workshops hosted by ORT SA CAPE. The recent workshop was the first one ORT SA CAPE had hosted for Rooikappie since the pandemic.
The children very much enjoyed the workshop, which included Lego Six Bricks activities, as well as a visit to the Science Centre. Rooikappie's Principal, Faranaaz, said she was very grateful that this workshop was possible.
Thank you very much for your support for ORT SA CAPE's programmes. You are making a real difference for the children in Cape Town by helping to provide them with higher quality of education and by giving them further opportunities to learn.
