ORT SA CAPE runs training sessions for teachers in under-resourced communities, to ensure that the children have a better quality education. The workshops focus on areas such as Perceptual Skills, Lego Playbox and Educational Coding and Robotics. This gives the children more skills and more opportunities for the future. Since 2020, ORT SA CAPE has also been providing food supplies to children. The need is growing, so you will be supporting the children with their food and education.
Research shows that in South Africa, 6.5 million children under 6 are deprived of critical early learning opportunities. For every 100 children entering school, 40 will complete Matric exams (in their final year of high school); 28 will pass; 4 will study further & 1 will graduate with a degree in science or technology. Teachers need further training, to deliver a good quality education. ORT SA CAPE's food assistance programme addresses hunger & allows the children to stay healthy as they learn.
The workshops enable teachers to teach more effectively and will help them to teach the children how to develop many new skills. This has a multiplier effect, as one teacher will teach many children over his or her career. The workshops will impact children at many under-resourced schools around Cape Town and the surrounding area. The provision of food supplies allows for the children's continued learning and benefits their health. GlobalGiving will partially match donations on GivingTuesday.
The teachers will be able to use their knowledge from the workshops to help the children develop more of the skills they will need throughout their education, and for life in general. The teachers will be providing a higher quality of education and the children will greatly benefit from this. In addition, as food prices have risen steeply over the past few years, the food supplies distributed by ORT SA CAPE will help the children to stay well and to avoid hunger.
