Summary

This project will support 275 vulnerable slum families in Rajasthan, India, through the distribution of emergency tarpaulins and monsoon safety awareness. Heavy rains often damage fragile huts, leaving families exposed to water, wind, and unsafe conditions. The initiative will help protect homes, belongings, and health while reducing the impact of seasonal disasters.

Challenge

For poor slum families, the monsoon season brings fear and hardship. Their temporary huts often leak or collapse during heavy rainfall, destroying clothes, bedding, food supplies, school materials, and cooking utensils. Flooded surroundings also increase the risk of dengue, malaria, diarrhea, and other seasonal diseases, placing children, women, and elderly people at serious risk.

Solution

RSKS India will distribute durable tarpaulins to 275 vulnerable families to help protect their huts from rain and storm damage. Awareness sessions will educate community members on disease prevention, mosquito control, hygiene, sanitation, and safe drinking water practices. These efforts will help families stay safer, healthier, and better prepared during the monsoon season.

Long-Term Impact

The project will strengthen the resilience of vulnerable families against recurring monsoon emergencies. Safer shelters will reduce losses and improve living conditions, while health awareness will lower the risk of seasonal illnesses. Families will gain greater security, dignity, and confidence, helping create healthier and more disaster-resilient communities for the future.
