This project will provide a year of English Education for Elie. Elie had never been to a formal English school before EIM, but he self studied, and practiced with his friends for years. As a result he started with EIM as an advanced student in 2014. Elie will use his language skills to find dignified, living wage employment - but he can't afford to pay for his own school. That's why he needs donors like you!
More than two thirds of Haitian adults lack formal employment and more than 50% of the population lives on around $2 a day. Despite high unemployment, there is actually a shortage of skilled labour in Port-au-Prince. English speakers can find work in hotels, restaurants, and offices, yet there are virtually no free English schools. Most Haitians, including Elie, cannot afford to attend these schools. Without the means to develop their skills, many are left trapped in poverty.
By ensuring that Elie can continue studying English for free at the English in Mind Institute, you can help him develop the skills he needs to find gainful employment.
