This project will provide an artificial leg for Alexander, a brave and loving nine year old boy that lost his leg while saving his 3 year old baby sister from being run over by a truck . Alexander wants to run and play again and this prostheses will allow him to have a normal childhood.
Alexander is in the 4th grade, he lives in a small Andean town in Cundinamarca, Colombia. He is a brave and loving little boy who lost his leg the past Deember while saving his little sister from being run over by a truck when they were playing in the sidewalk outside of their house. Since then, Alexander has had to undergone many painful surgeries and skin-grafts. This loving and couragious brother deserves a chance to run and play again.
Providing this little hero with a new leg, will help him go back to his normal life, have a new chance to go back to school, play and run and help his mom around the house. These new prostheses will provide him with an oportunity to better adapt to this new and diffiult chage in his life, giving him a new chance at a normal and happy childhood.
Makavir Kmina provides prostheses to 250 amputees per year. This project will provide in a one-year period, prostheses to 20 children and youth between 1 and 25 years old who have suffered lower limb amputation allowing them to become independent in their daily life activities. This is important because they will have the opportunity to return to school, college or work, thus improving their living conditions and those of the people around them.
