Fifteen girls living with HIV need urgent access to lenacapavir for treatment support. Adolescents living with HIV face stigma, treatment interruptions, poor medication adherence and difficulty achieving viral suppression. This project will raise funds to provide lenacapavir for 15 girls for whom it is clinically prescribed,including laboratory monitoring & follow-up care, giving them a better chance to live and control the virus. According to Unicef 140000+ adolescents ages 10-19 live with HIV.
For these 15 girls living with HIV, staying on an effective treatment regimen has become difficult as available medicines may no longer control the virus or drug resistance develops. Their families have limited incomes and struggle to afford newer HIV medicines, specialist consultations and required tests. Treatment gaps can allow HIV to multiply, weaken the immune system and increase the risk of serious infections, illness and premature death.
This project will raise $3,600 to provide lenacapavir to 15 girls living with HIV. At a current cost of $120 per person, each girl will receive the medicine twice a year as clinically prescribed. Funds raised will cover the cost of lenacapavir, helping the girls maintain access to their prescribed HIV treatment and reducing treatment interruptions caused by their families' inability to afford the medicine.
Continued access to prescribed HIV treatment can help these 15 girls achieve and maintain viral suppression, protect their immune systems and reduce the risk of HIV-related illness. Successful treatment can also reduce the risk of HIV transmission and allow the girls to continue their education and daily lives. Supporting consistent access to medicine can give them the opportunity to grow into adulthood with better health and greater hope for the future.
