This project will provide direct-to-student instrument donations for up to 12 underserved girls as well as a series of personalized virtual lessons with a professional female musician. These lessons will increase confidence, inspire and empower the female students as well as provide financial support for the musician in an uncertain time.
Despite evidence that participation in music and arts improves focus, motivation and academic performance for all kids (despite socioeconomic status, gender, race, age etc.) funding for music and the arts in public schools has declined significantly in the past decade - disproportionately affecting low income communities. With many schools out of session or operating remotely due to COVID-19, access to music education becomes even more difficult for students of low socioeconomic status.
This project will provide up to a dozen girls their own instrument of their choosing, as well as a series of personalized virtual lessons with one of Can'd Aid's female TUNES Ambassadors (professional musicians). The lessons will not only teach fundamental techniques and musical skills, but TUNES Ambassadors are instructed to inspire through stories of perseverance and encouragement as a woman in the music industry, and empower students to express themselves confidently through music.
On the highest level, Can'd Aid's MUSIC + ARTS program educates, inspires and empowers the next generation of musicians. The long-term benefits of music education include increased brain function, accelerated language development, higher IQs, improved test scores and prove to be particularly effective therapy for at-risk youth. Providing this programming can broaden horizons, allow for personal expression, increased self-confidence and be the catalyst for a child to follow their passion.
