Many children in Mfuleni Cape Town are in very poor shack schools, with precious little in the way of educational equipment. This project will provide school kits to up to 30 educares, providing a rich supply of educational materials to 1000+ children.
Most of the schools we work with are very poor, they have little or no resources, and after Covid lockdown little money to buy resources. We provide these schools with educational kits that are suitable for 0-6 year old children. Inside each kit includes a variety of educational items such as books, puzzles, stationery, art supplies, musical instruments and outdoor equipment (bean bags, hoops).
We focus on Early Childhood Development (ECD) because investment in providing children aged 0 to 6 years in their education has been shown to produce a lifetime benefit. This project will enable us to buy educational kits for up to 30 educares and the teachers are trained by field workers to use the educational materials. In this way, we equip our schools and give the children of Mfuleni the Starting Chance they deserve.
The positive impact of educating children aged 0-6 years is far-reaching and can be felt throughout the whole community. This is a season where young minds and hearts are shaped, laying the foundations for the journey ahead. The acquisition of language, problem solving abilities, numeracy, motor skills, reading and writing and the like are measurable in terms of developmental milestones.
