Final progress report for: Fund Jolly Phonics Literacy & Grammar Programme’

I would like to personally thank everyone who supported this microproject in whatever way. I am pleased to be able to report that, despite the coronavirus crisis, we have run a very successful campaign to raise funds towards the costs of buying an innovative new education programme for SAM and the Samaritan Primary School, namely the Jolly Phonics Literacy & Grammar Programme.

To date we have already raised a total of £1,300 (€1416), which is well on the way to our goal at £2,200 (€2340) to purchase one package of the programme materials.

When we launched this microproject we were so excited about introducing it to our children at SAM and the Samaritan Primary School during the current academic school year. However, the worldwide coronavirus pandemic has literally ‘thrown a spanner in the works’ and, along with all schools in Uganda, SAM and the Samaritan Primary School remain closed. It is increasingly likely that the entire school year will be lost.

However, the funds raised through this microproject have been ringfenced so that once our schools can re-open and balancing funds allow, we can purchase a first package of materials. Ideally, we would like to buy 2 packages, so we will continue to fund raise, and hopefully circumstances will enable us to repeat this microproject in 2021.

The Jolly Phonics system has proven results and has been researched all over the world. This research reveals that the progress made by children using Jolly Phonics far exceeds that of children not taught using a synthetic phonics approach. It is effective across the ability range, with boys doing just as well as girls, while those with English as their second language can do as well as children who have it as their first.

If you are interested in learning more about the Jolly Phonics approach to language teaching and our project to use it at SAM please go to:  https://www.globalgiving.org/microprojects/fund-jolly-phonics-literacy-and-grammar-programme/  and  https://www.jollylearning.co.uk/

I hope you will continue to follow and support the work we are doing in Uganda and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at:  jill@kinderhulp-afrika.nl, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks again for your support, may I wish you all the strength you need to cope in these uncertain times.
