ORT SA CAPE in Cape Town, South Africa, focusses on educational projects and runs workshops for children, in areas such as science and technology, and also offers teacher training sessions on a variety of topics. The team had to adapt and greatly adjust their educational programmes once the lockdown began.
ORT SA CAPE also saw that the need for food was a growing and urgent problem, as poverty levels increased in Cape Town. Embarking on a completely new project, ORT SA CAPE started to deliver food parcels and is currently supplying 140 families with food every two weeks.
Assistance has been given to creches and early education centres too. A few years ago, we linked one of our partner organisations, Rooikappie Pre-School Centre with ORT SA CAPE and Rooikappie has been one of the organisations receiving help from the ORT team.
Rooikappie's Principal, Faranaaz wrote:
"Thank you once again for the generous donations... we really appreciate it. Please send thank yous to all the [supporters]... you know how much we truly appreciate the parcels."
Once the lockdown restrictions began to ease, some in-person teacher training sessions became possible again, as did distributing Lego Playboxes, as an educational resource, to children and teachers in disadvantaged communities. ORT SA CAPE ran sessions in a refugee camp in Cape Town. Some photos are included with this report.
We are so grateful to you, for choosing to support this work through CHW's "Microproject" page. Your help came at such a crucial time as the past year has brought so many new challenges.
If you would like to support the children at ORT SA CAPE again, then GlobalGiving is holding its Little By Little campaign from 8 to 12 March. Donations of up to $50 (around £36) will be matched by 50% during that week. Contributions can be made through our main page for ORT SA CAPE: https://www.globalgiving.org/21813 Any help with sharing the project during the campaign would be so greatly appreciated.
Thank you again, very much, for the difference you have made for the children in Cape Town!
