Project Report | Dec 7, 2020
Providing dignity through food security

By Sarah Bergs | Project Leader

The last 10 months have been surreal for us all, so there is no better time than the season of Thanksgiving, for us to reflect on the support we have gotten from so many people. This support from each and every one of you has enabled us to play such an important role in our communities... It has enabled us to give people their dignity.

Poverty and being hungry is a goal for no one, and the families impacted by Covid-19 that were already struggling, did not have the resilience for the huge unemployment created through lockdown and the loss of the tourism industry. The real levels of poverty in our villages and communities was and is huge, and the increase in small crime and subsistance poaching is a very real outcome of people desperate to bring in something to provide for their families.

Dignity- Ubuntu and Resilience.

These words have been our focus through all our support programs and Covid-19 interventions, we also aimed for more long term sustainability in terms of food security through setting up a recycling swop shop programs and distributing seedlings for home gardens. We want people to have stronger lives and better resilience in the face of this pandemic, climate change and just life in general.

But the overarching concept that we want to hold in our hearts and share with you, is HOPE. Hope because as humanity, we have had compassion for each other in this time of need, and this is reflected in so many ways... through your giving, through the support of my team and the very real compassion they have for each family we have supported.

THANK you!

Nourish will endeavour more than ever to grow resilience in our wildlife communities, and we thank you for being part of our journey!

Happiness is...not going hungry
