Updates on EcoHuella Farmer Education Center

By Kat Gordon | Project Leader

Hey there!

AASD's farmer education center in partnership with Ecohuella farm continues to develop here in the Sacred Valley. While we've come a long way in the last year, we are still hoping to raise some more funds to complete the furnishing of this dynamic educational space. In the meantime, we've begun hosting workshops on site, using the classroom space for the theoretical portion of our workshops. Over the next few months we'll be undertaking the following developments at the farmer education center:

  • tiling the floor of the classroom space
  • furnishing the classroom space with chairs, tables, a projector screen, interactive educational materials, and relevant literature to create an onsite library
  • completing the kitchen space with commercial kitchen furnishings that will better enable us to host workshops and produce value added products with excess produce
  • completing the dormitory spaces with beds, mattresses, and other amenities
  • continuing to host workshops in our beautiful educational spaces

Most excitingly, in September, we'll be officially launching the Ecohuella farmer education center and our community seed bank (currently under development)! We're planning a big celebration where we'll host community members, local organizations, and farmers from around the region to join our celebration. We're planning out a multi-day series of workshops, knowledge exchanges and the first on-site organic seed exchange. Keep an eye out for updates. We can't wait!

If you'd like to contribute to this event or the finishing touches of the farmer field school, visit our active project page on GlobalGiving to do so! Please follow our progress and be in touch if you'd like to come visit our work here in Peru.
