We have installed the solar panels and it has been incredibly life changing for the Makindu Children’s Centre campus. Having solar panels has increased productivity in the kitchen tremendously. Children and guardians are able to access the kitchen around the clock because of the consistent electricity. Before the solar panels, electricity was so spotty that the kitchen would have to shut down several times a week due to unreliable electricity. Productivity in the classrooms has increased as well. Students no longer have to worry about losing their work due to spotty electricity. This has relieved lots of frustration and discouragement that had come along with working hard on projects only for them to be lost forever after a random blackout. Additionally, classrooms are more comfortable for students because there are now fans to keep classrooms cooler. Most importantly, the campus is safer. Previously, the spotty electricity created dark unsafe walkways but now they are bright at night creating a safer environment for the children. The solar panels are the most cost effective and reliable way for us to power the centre. Electricity costs went up by 20% in Kenya and was very unreliable. Thank you so much to everyone for helping give these children HOPE.
