St Cecilia recently completed their new classroom building complex, breathing a lease of new life into the school. However these modern classrooms still utilise very old furniture hindering students' ability to learn comfortably. We are appealing for contributions on behalf of these students to furnish their classrooms with chairs, desks and lockers to complete a rich and enabling environment.
A recent survey of the entire school found the top issue for students was the furniture in the school which was near impossible to be comfortable on for the extended hours they are in school for. Funding at the school is extremely tight and it is likely no money will be found for furniture in the near future. We therefore are hoping to take on this responsibility and fulfill the students' wishes.
Using funds raised from this campaign and existing fundraised funds tied to our EPAfrica project with the school, we aim to fit each classroom with new and improved desks, lockers and chairs. We envisage this will reinvigorate the classroom environments, allowing for higher levels of concentration and effective learning for students that already face many barriers.
Furnishing these classrooms will enable future generations of St Cecilia students to access an environment that at the least will provide comfortable conditions to learn. Furthermore, we are hopeful as a result of this work future funds in the school will be free for use to develop other aspects of the classrooms, helping to take their education to a higher level.
