The results are in on the project which you and other donors gave so generously to. Funds were gathered and augmented in so many positive ways, that not only were the essential pumps acquired, but one of our volunteer doctors was able to procure an additional echo-cardiograph machine. The package has been shipped off to our Pediatric Heart Center in Nicaragua to be used in the operating rooms and in the ICU areas.
Your generosity has made it possible for babies and young children to receive just the right dosage of their medicines with just the right timing. That's what syringe pumps do. This is essential for the best recovery, as you can imagine. And the addition of another "echo" machine is such a help with diagnosing and monitoring progress.
What can we say, but "thank you"?
Sustainable progress continues. This month (August) we are sending a volunteer surgical team from the country of Colombia in South America. The team of 15 specialists will perform a week of surgeries (about 10) and continue to train. The local team is now fully capable in repairing straightforward heart problems, so this current team will work with them on more complex cases. Each month that passes sees new capabilities emerging.
Surgical rates are up and mortality rates are down. Because children are receiving care sooner, rather than later, the outcomes are better.
On behalf of the children we are helping in Nicaragua, and with heartfelt thanks, we remain grateful to you, our Global Giving donors.
