Summary

eReaders can provide an African student the escape from the cycle of poverty and place them on a path toward a bright future. With eReaders students can obtain access to thousands of books in the palm of their hands, enriching their education and improving literacy. eReaders provide benefits to a student in Africa that books cannot provide. We need to come out of the old way of reading and to take advantage of technology to improve our students' lives and expose them to more opportunities.

Challenge

With eReaders students are provided almost unlimited access to eBooks in one small device that is easily portable unlike conventional books. Because eBooks can be downloaded, the cost of shipping books to Africa is eliminated. Using an eReader enables students to read better at night in dimly lighted housing where they have no electricity and use kerosene or solar lamps to do their homework.

Solution

This project will provide 50 eReaders loaded with at least 100 story eBooks and text eBooks, and will cover purchasing and shipment costs. This will empower our students' learning through reading. The eReaders will promote the education of girls at FAWE, an all-girls school in Freetown, Sierra Leone. With the eReaders, the girls will have access to a wide range or eBooks.

Long-Term Impact

By investing in eReaders, teachers can save valuable time and focus on providing a quality education. With an eReader, the world becomes the child's classroom. eReaders provide African students with an essential tool in completing their education. This will give them the opportunity to keep pace with the latest information available at a fraction of the cost of buying and shipping conventional books.
