Our next phase of STEM programming includes eb development. This phase provides the perfect opportunity for members to build on skills acquired through the programs listed while preparing for post-secondary education, a STEM career, and entrepreneurship.
All students, especially disadvantaged youth, need access to high-quality STEM learning opportunities to spark their interest in STEM careers and to be better prepared for them. Websites are essential marketing tools for businesses and organizations. Small businesses in underserved communities lack presence online and many small business owners lack skills needed to develop sites.
Students will enroll in the entrepreneurship class and engage in hands-on business development instruction and skill development through a scenario based curriculum developing a website for client. Participants will learn to work collaboratively, develop critical thinking skills, hone their learning skills, express their ideas and get exposure to the foundations of entrepreneurship. Teams will collaborate with community organizations, entrepreneurs and businesses to develop websites.
Teens develop entrepreneurial skills and get an opportunity to engage in an incubator environment. Students will become more engaged in school, develop a career pathway, graduate from high school then enroll in some level of post-secondary education that will lead to employment and/or business development. 200 teens will participate. Awards will be given to top three teams determined by a panel of judges comprised of business and community leaders, enterpreneurs and investors.
