Field Trips Make the Difference for NFTE Baltimore

NFTE Baltimore/Washington just complete our summer BizCamps, which served dozens of students in both cities.  Though our microproject on GlobalGiving to provide field trips for our students did not meet its goal, the participants in our summer programs were still able to receive the full NFTE experience. We cannot thank those we did donate enough!  Your contributions helped us bring our unique entrepreneurial mindset to the young entrepreneurs who registered for our two-week, full-day intensive ‘mini-MBA’ program.  Today’s youth need a mindset that equips them to recognize opportunity, take initiative, and innovate in the face of challenges.  Our summer BizCamp serves as an entrepreneurship crash course, as students use their lessons imparted in the class to create their own business plan.  Under the guidance of a certified NFTE teacher, these students broaden their horizons and strengthen their entrepreneurial ventures with the support of volunteers who lend their guidance with business development and financial advice.

One of the camps was held at Marymount University in Northern Virginia.  Students got to take a trip to the offices of E*TRADE Financial, to meet with business professionals and see just what it takes to run a business in the digital economy.  The chance to meet with business mentors also helped as the students formulated plans for their own businesses.  These volunteers helped strengthen the students’ new entrepreneurial ventures with their personal business development and financial advice.  At the end of the program the lessons from the class and the business mentors fueled each participants’ business plan presentation.  The winner of the pitch competition, receiving $1,500 in startup capital to help get her business off the ground, was Isabella L.  She founded Help Ignite Progress, which sells a curriculum made to increase social knowledge.  Your donations through the GlobalGiving platform went towards the costs of the field trips that gave Isabella access to mentors and expertise that helped bring her idea to life.

Thank you again for your contributions to NFTE through the GlobalGiving platform!  Your donations are helping students like Isabella fully realize the potential of their entrepreneurial mindset.
