Rotary started the fight against Polio in the Philippines in 1987 when there were over 350,000 cases of Polio a year. Last year there were 8 cases (Pakistan, Afghanistan), but this year (2024) has seen a rise to over 40. We must end this disease in the world. This project will help fund Rotary's END POLIO NOW campaign as part of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Every donation is tripled by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Every penny goes to End Polio Now.
This project will help pay for vaccinations in the last two countries of the world where Polio remains active 'in the wild'. UNICEF states each vaccination dose costs between US 10c to 19c. Please help eliminate Polio.
Your participation in our Challenge will help fund Rotary's END POLIO NOW campaign, which is part of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Your donation will be tripled by Rotary's partners, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Thus a 20 pound donation will become 60 pounds, or 75 pounds with Gift Aid, which will pay for over 500 children's vaccinations against Polio.
The ultimate goal, to which this project is contributing, is the elimination of Polio worldwide. With a rise to over 40 cases worldwide so far in 2024, this goal is tantalisingly close. If we persevere this will be only the second disease that mankind has eliminated, the first being Smallpox, eradicated in 1977. DONATE NOW AND HELP MAKE HISTORY!
