Our Technology micro-project retired a few weeks ago and unfortunately we weren't able to meet our goals. This was an untimely mix of having our biggest local fundraising event of the year and the first case of Covid-19 showing up in Guatemala at the beginning of March. With everything happening in the world, fundraising for technology began to fade away as many turned their attention to helping fund hospitals and medical relief for countries and communities facing the health crisis.
Yet, we are hopeful at PCI. Regardless of our current economic situation, we are hopeful that we can continue to move forward with our plans to expand our school and our community in the coming year. We've worked too hard not to be able to do this.
While we are facing unprecedented times and we need to shift our focus from technology to operations costs and making sure our students are receiving their scholarships (a greater need as the economy here in Panajachel has been hit hard by the covid-19 shutdowns) and our teachers are getting paid for all the work that they do with our kids every day. We might not have the brightest and shiniest of computer labs and we might have to share our 10 computers amongst 70 students--but we'll manage for now as we focus on keeping our school open for future generations.
While this particular project has been retired we are looking for help and support in the way of emergency funding for our school. If you feel inclined to help our school stay open, please check out our current project that helps support teachers and our scholarship students during this time: https://www.globalgiving.org/microprojects/covid19saveourschool/
As always, thank you for your continued support of our students and our community in Panajachel!
