Children in rural areas can't access quality secondary education which hinders their economic advancement. With your donation Ba Futuru, a local NGO, can afford the transportation they need to bring their revolutionary high school program to rural areas.
Ba Futuru's High Schools Transformation project worked with 2 schools in Dili and nearby Atauro Island. The Quality Education Project will bring this program to 4 new schools in 2 rural municipalities - Manatuto and Baucau. This project allows children living in rural municipalities to have access to quality secondary education, which is key to economic empowerment. The project encourages teachers to stop using violent discipline and to replace this with positive classroom management strategies.
In order to conduct outreach and capacity development support, Ba Futuru requires a reliable 4 wheel drive vehicle to make regular trips to the 4 schools in the remote areas. The roads between Dili, where Ba Futuru's office is located, and each of the new target schools are poorly maintained and very difficult to travel through. A new car will ensure that Ba Futuru has greater access to these remote schools, and will ensure the safety of staff members and equipment.
Sustainability of outcomes will be enhanced by the teacher training toolkit and the fact that the Ministry of Education, as well as target school administrators, teachers and teacher trainers will receive the toolkit for future use. Films will be incorporated into the training toolkit for each module, so that the toolkit can be used for providing quality teacher training beyond the life of the project.
