We Need Books is a small library with a big mission! With this project, we're focusing on the refugee and migrant children who visit us daily. We want to continue offering them crucial support to succeed in school, build social skills, and thrive within a caring community. We know that by helping these vulnerable children, we're shaping compassionate, empowered individuals for a better future.
In Athens, a city of 643,542 residents, 19% of whom are foreign-born, there is a critical shortage of accessible, multilingual resources for diverse communities. This gap leads to educational disparities, integration challenges, and cultural isolation, especially for migrants, refugees, and underserved locals. The impact on children is profound, limiting their potential and the bright futures they deserve.
This project will provide free after-school tutoring for vulnerable children, addressing the lack of academic support that often leads to failure and dropout. We'll offer weekly activities to boost their confidence, social and emotional growth, and foster mutual respect. Additionally, we will promote early literacy and a love for books through engaging, educational programs for children and teens. All of this takes place in a safe, caring environment where children know they will always be heard
This program will improve academic success, fostering skills that increase graduation rates and future opportunities for 80 refugee and migrant children. It will promotes social and emotional development, helping children become resilient and empathetic. By bridging cultural divides, it will enhance community integration. Long-term, the program will help break cycles of disadvantage and instills a lifelong love for learning, empowering children to create brighter futures.
