HHP's Learning Academy helps participants become empowered patients, caregivers, and patient advocates by participating in self-paced online courses. This campaign will fund the Patient Empowerment 101 course which will teach learners about what it means to be an empowered patient, and why it is increasingly important to be proactive, informed, and invested in health care decisions. Course modules will include: Patient Empowerment & The ePatient Movement, Patient Rights and Health Literacy.
Patients do not know how to find, access and understand the laws and regulations in their area. Patients do not know how to research their conditions. Patients do not know how to speak up for themselves and are stuck in old modes of thinking leaving them disempowered. Patients do not know the medical vocabulary/language to understand or be understood by medical professionals. Patients do not know how to find services to inform their healthcare decisions and treatments.
This microproject will teach patients to: understand medical language and jargon; empower them to have a voice in their healthcare decisions and treatments; be able to research their conditions and all the treatment options available to them; speak up for themselves with an understanding of their medical rights and laws and regulations in their area.
The long term impact of HHP's Learning Academy includes: healthier communities; improved treatments as people learn from each other; less waste in healthcare spending; increased productivity. HHP's holistic approach increases the range of treatments and healing available to people.
