The project will empower 30 girl victims of sexual exploitation in Mpigi town in Mpigi District-Uganda with practical skills in leather shoes making for employment creation. They will be provided with start-up kits for group business establishment. They will also be provided with psychosocial support services through counselling, games and sports to heal their minds and enable them concentrate on the training. They will also be provided with advocacy skills.
Around 18,000 girls/young women are forced into commercial sex work in urban slums (UYDEL study 2011). They are trafficked into this, or forced to join the trade because they cannot earn a living. This has many negative consequences, including high rates of HIV/AIDS (37% among commercial sex workers), backstreet abortions and mental health disorders. It also found that lack of responsible parental care is one of the key factors which make girls susceptible to CSEC -approximately 80% of the girls
Will Improve the capacity of 500 school children and communities to prevent commercial sexual exploitation; through training, sensitization & establishments of children movements in schools.Link 20 girl children victimized by commercial sexual exploitation that will be willing to go back to school to access free education from public primary and secondary schools.Empower 30 girl victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSEC) with practical skills in leather shoes making for employment creation
The result will be that the girls/young women will be able to earn a living in a safe and sustainable way. Their children will be happier, healthier, and better protected, while communities will be able to protect and promote the girl child rights,detect, report and follow up cases of exploitation
