Update on Amos Trust support reaching Gaza

By Chris Rose | Director

The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate. So far between 7 October 2023 and 29 March 2024, at least 32,623 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and 75,092 Palestinians injured, according to MoH in Gaza. Over 1.8 million people have been displaced, many multiple times, and over 70 percent of the population is projected to face catastrophic hunger between March and July 2024. There are also the wide spread communicable diseases and those resulting from poor sanitation and lack of available drinking water. It is estimated that for those sheltering in Rafah 941 people are having to share a single toilet.

The health system in Gaza is barely surviving, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), with only 10 out of 36 hospitals currently functional, albeit partially. Partially functional hospitals provide limited services, are overwhelmed with patients, and face critical shortages of fuel, medicines, medical supplies, and health personnel. There is such widespread destruction of buildings that at least 67% of schools in Gaza will either need full reconstruction or major rehabilitation work to be functional again.

In this period from January to March 29th Amos Trust has managed to provide vital Aid through our partner organisations and other organisations that we work with in Gaza. The money raised through GlobalGiving has formed a small part of this. In this period we have provided over $90,000 of food parcels to displaced people sheltering in the South of Gaza (Rafah Area) through a partnership with a UK Development agency.  We have provided $25,000 of support to the Culture and Free Thought Association through a partnership with Christian Aid to enable them to provide vital support to local communities.

We also provided $37,200 to our partner the Al Ahli ‘baptist’ Hospital to pay salary costs for their staff members who are sheltering in the south of Gaza (this is essential for them and their families survival)  and we have also provided a further $50,000 of support to the Gaza Sunbirds emergency relief programmes - through which they are providing food parcels and further emergency support to their local communities. Finally, we gave a grant of $25,000 towards a new partnership with MA’AN to provide hygiene services in South Gaza and $25,000 to MECC-DSPR to fund emergency relief being provided by our longstanding partner in Gaza NECC.
