American mothers fleeing domestic violence with their children in foreign countries need immediate assistance. Alone, afraid, unable to speak the local language and no knowledge of local resources, many are forced to return to the abuser if they don't get immediate help. We want to provide emergency back packs to 10 abused mothers through contacts in foreign countries that contain a pre-paid cell phone, cash equivalent of $100 in the local currency, personal hygiene items, and so on.
The emergency backpacks will enable battered American mothers fleeing with their children immediate access to communication (prepaid cell phone) cash for emergency needs, personal hygiene items for herself and her children, snacks, water, first aid kit and so on. American mothers fleeing violence with their children have little more than the clothes on their backs. This project will serve 10 battered American mothers plus their children when fleeing domestic violence and child abuse.
American mothers will be able to make phone calls to service providers including the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center securely, plus family members and other support people helping them get to a safe place. They will will have money for emergency needs, i.e. bus tickets, food for themselves and their children, and so on in the critical first few hours they escape violence.
Each year we provide battered American women and children with information and services necessary to enable them to live their lives without violence. Since 2001 we have helped over 3000 women plus their children free themselves from abuse.
