Collaboration With Stakeholders Yields Results

By Veronica Agana | Project Coordinator

We held a focus group discussion with local stakeholders in Kaduna for the Clean up if the Doka Boys School. Representatives of the traditional council, school management and business leaders were in attendance.

The deplorable state of the school was brought to the notice of power holders and duty bearers. The challenge of undue access to the school was addressed and how we will use visual and beautification exercise to keep those who urinate indiscriminately at bay. Again, we have commitment to get the Nigerian Police Force keep watch over the school during school hours thereby keeping pupils in school to attend their lessons.

After due consultation and engagement, the local government took up the challenge to do their duty to clean up and fence the school, and also SI4DEV is supporting with microproject funding.

First visit to the school:

I was at the project site to engage the students on the next phase of the project unfortunately, met the students absent even though schools have been declared open from the ministry of education. Again, the construction of the second phase of this school fence has commenced and should take an estimated 4 weeks of completion. Following up with the contractor to know when to commence our project. Here are some images from the foundation digging. In the front section of the school, labourers are digging up remnants of the illegal structures previously around the school.

Visit 2:

In addition to the existing number of pupils, we have an additional 23 assigned from the Junior section added to the 45 from senior classes. Making up to 68 now. Project overview was shared with them and they were challenged to come up with ideas regarding the beautification project. Images were also shared with them and I charged them to take responsibility for maintaining their school environment. Pupils are looking toward to the project implementation upon resuming for the new term.

Your support is much appreciated!

Thank you.
