PIZZ School continues to provide an amazing opportunity for orphaned and very vulnerable children to escape from a life of poverty through education. The project is far more than just a school. The children are nurtured and given the confidence as well as ability to go out into the world and make a difference not only to their lives, but also others.
Children are now making a decent life as builders, shopkeepers, one is a pastor, another a musician. Two former students are now at university.
The project does not abandon the children after they leave PIZZ School. In particular it has tried to support children at secondary school. This year Hands Around the World decided that we couldn't disappoint children who worked hard for their grade 9 exams. In the event 29 students passed their exams and qualified for the final three years at a secondary school. We committed to start funding the school fees for all the children – approximately £300 per student per year.
Despite the fact that we only raised $150 from this microproject, where we aimed to fund 10 students, we are determined to find other means to continue to support the students.
Thank you very much if you have sent funds. You can be assured that this money will be used directly to fund the students from PIZZ School who have just entered secondary school. We will continue to raise funds for the secondary school students in different ways and donations are still very much needed to continue the wonderful work of PIZZ School – donations can be made through the GlobalGiving page “Support Orphaned Children in Monze, Zambia”
