Mariatu is in class 3 and dreams of becoming a lawyer when she grows up. Mariatu lost both her parents to Ebola. She lives in the Dream Home Orphanage and this project will help Mariatu through school this year and help cover the costs of housing, clothes and food additionally.
Education is a major ongoing problem for many children in Sierra Leone due to the cost and the very limited funds that many families have available. According to the United Nations, 42% of African school children will drop out before the end of primary education. In Mariatu's case, she doesn't have any funds and is relying entirely on the Dream Home to have a chance at a future. This project will provide a scholarship for Mariatu in addition to housing and food for a year.
Funds from this project will help Mariatu continue her education and eventually become a lawyer - her desired future profession. Your support will help provide what Mariatu needs to be successful in school this year and empower her to become a forward-thinking leader of Sierra Leone.
Healthy, well-educated and emancipated women are an excellent foundation for a new and free society. Your support will help Mariatu to finish school, become independent and self-sufficient. In Mariatu's chosen future career as a lawyer, she will also be contributing to national development.
