Challenge

In Uganda and Mayuge District in particular, lack of school facilities like school structures, continues to be a big stumbling block towards improving the quality of education especially girls. Many schools hold classes in open or under tree sheds and where such schools exist, most children walk long distances to access education. Children with disability who can not walk such long distances end up not going to school and this puts their future exposed to serious vices of being sexually abused.

Solution

The completion of the school structure will create a conducive learning environment where students will be able to study well even during rain season. The teachers will be able to display pictorial materials around the classes to make it easier for the students to excel in education. The provision of enough sitting arrangements will make students comfortable hence, this will be an incentive to attract more children to attend school. An educated community is able to take informed decisions .

Long-Term Impact

Keeping children in school especially girls will be one of the strategies that will increase awareness of the girl child rights, human rights, increased knowledge on the dangers of child marriage, young people empowered from the capacity building and the entrepreneurship skills that will enhance development. The government will be able to develop supportive policies and allocate resources to increase health, education and economic opportunities for married and girls at risk of early marriages.
