Challenge

Many jobs now require a basic level of ICT skills, and many students at Simbi have no experience with computers. This means they find it difficult to get the careers that they want. Additionally, the Kenyan education system is changing to a curriculum that involves the use of ICT in all subjects. While this is important, schools like Simbi without the resources to keep up are left behind.

Solution

Simbi's headteacher, Noel Nyalanga, is passionate about creating an ICT room to allow the students to develop ICT skills by using computers and enrich their studies with e-learning. This will allow them to be better prepared for their futures as well as make their lessons more interactive, therefore improving the teaching. By instructing the teachers how to make the most of the ICT resources, we can sustainably create lessons that integrate e-learning.

Long-Term Impact

The students at Simbi will be more prepared for their future careers, and be able to get higher paying jobs more easily. This will happen because they have the essential ICT skills needed. Also, the availability of e-learning will hopefully mean that students can achieve higher grades, which will also help them in their futures, for higher education or jobs.
