The Helping Hands Project provides support for marginalized and disadvantaged boys and girls in the department of La Paz, Bolivia, so that they may access a high school education and post-secondary training. Besides providing school materials, transportation, uniforms and lunches, Helping Hands provides dental care for all students in order to protect their health and teach our youth the importance of good dental hygiene.
Because Bolivia does not have universal health insurance, families living in poverty never have the chance to access expensive health care or dental care. They must first pay for food and shelter. Dental care is a luxury. Our children need good dental health in order to eat well and perform well in school. It is also essential for them to learn the importance of good dental hygiene and teach their other family members and their own children in the future to take good care of their teeth.
Your donation will provide dental care for 44 elementary and high school students for the school year that runs from February 2019 to November 2019 (southern hemisphere school year). It will provide dental checkups for the students, cleaning, treatment for cavities and dental education from the dentist for each child. As well, the donation will cover a toothbrush and 2 tubes of toothpaste for each child.
Our elementary and high school students will have good dental care and be able to attend school regularly. They will learn the importance of keeping their teeth in good health and help to spread this information to their extended families. The students, in turn, when they have their own children will better understand the importance of taking care of their children's teeth.
