UBECI Dental Project 2019 Report

By Molly McGee | Administrative Support Volunteer

Holá Donors!

We want to extend our sincere gratitude for all your continued support and help towards supporting the street children here in Quito. To date, we have raised over $60,000  with your help since 2007. Every day UBECI staff and volunteers from around the world, travel to various markets where they work with local children in which the children may receive help both before and after school.

It has been a busy new year here at UBECI and as the peak months of July and August approach, UBECI is eager to share a new project that will be launched in July.  During the month of July, UBECI will dedicate its resources to providing the street children with dental hygiene kits containing essential tools such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss, while also providing workshops on how to take care of their teeth properly.  In addition, UBECI has cultivated partnerships with local dentists who have agreed to provide the children with dental evaluations and procedures. Dental procedures may include cavity fillings, tooth extractions, and cleanings. Our staff and volunteers here at UBECI will instruct all 250 children how to properly use their toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and soap. The fundraising goal for this project is $5,000. These funds will ensure that all 250 children will receive a kit with the essential dental hygiene tools and will also help cover the procedures and evaluations conducted by the local dental partners.

The long term goal of this project is to instil knowledge on proper dental hygiene in the children so that they may practice the habit of brushing their teeth throughout their lives. UBECI staff and volunteers strive to break the chain of poverty by providing children with new opportunities and activities that help instil positive self-esteem, provide before and after school assistance, and most importantly provide a safe and welcoming environment where the children may play and embrace their childhoods.

Thank you for your time and your continued support. We hope to hear from you soon!
