Stay Home. Stay Safe...It isn't a safe space for everyone! Being locked at home to help prevent the virus is the right thing to do however thousands of new cases are being reported daily of increased domestic violence through this challenging time. Our project in South Africa provides a safe house for women and children and in the past few weeks requests have overtaken capacity. We need urgent critical funding to be able to rescue these women and children before it is too late.
This project is part of an ongoing project but has seen the urgent request to be scaled up to protect and save the lives of many women and children that are experiencing increased domestic abuse during the virus pandemic that has left many nations locked down at home for weeks.
We will increase support, resources and capacity for our safe houses to allow more women, children to access the services and to accelerate our support for others that are at the end of the program with sustainable employment and a safe home.
We know this is not a 'once off' virus and that the virus not only is here to stay long term but the impact longer term on all our projects are at risk. The work we do now will continue to support these women longer-term and not just through the immediate crisis we all face.
