COVID19 Appeal: Help Feed Street-Children

Dear Partners,friends and supporters,

Les Enfants de Dieu(EDD) in partnership with GlobalGiving would sincerely like to thank you for the support about the difference we had made together in supporting the most vulnerable people especially in the period of COVID-19 lockdown.

Honestly, there is no adequate words enough to express how grateful our heats feel towards your generosity that you have extended to our beneficiaries thus far for our “COVID19 Appeal” Help Feed Street-Children,

As you have made donations, and shared our appeal with your friends and family, we are so privileged to inform you that we have been able to raised 101.24% of our goal equivalent to $10,124.16

Since launching the appeal on the globalgiving for your support; you had continually made a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable, whereby On 05 May 2020, we were able to make all purchases for the food and hygiene items in order distribute them to the 29 families then 6^th May 2020 a food and sanitation items distribution day whereby we gave 25kg of maize flours, 13kg of beans, 1liter of oil and 2 bars of soaps for each family

Now all families had been successful reached.

In addition to that, 26 Children who were staying at the center were able to be kept in good health as they have been well nourished and given lemon water every morning just to boost up the immunity. Again 17 parents of the kids have recently received food support and soaps whereby each assisted with 10kgs of beans, 12.5kg of rice, 25kg of maize flour and 1 bar of soap. Furthermore, through your support we have been able also to distribute food to our 27 alumni whose their source of daily bread have been interrupted by the pandemic whereby each one was assisted with 25 kg of maize flour ,10 kg of beans,1 litter of cooking oil and 1 bar of soap.

Some Alumni Testimonies:

“My name is Jimmy before covid pandemic, my daily source of bread was to provide dance training to local younger dancers as well as dancing in ceremonies where I usually got paid and enabled to meet my living cost at some extent, when covid-19 came, everything changed to the point that we got locked down, and eating suddenly become a puzzle just because I couldn’t go to provide dance training anymore and there was no ceremony to participate in.However, I was amazed by great news that overwhelmed me by receiving food support in such challenging time and all I can say is thank you for your assistance.”

My name is Elie ,one of the EDD alumni, I had been working as a tailor technician but when covid-19 emerged my means of living was totally interrupted by the fact that we were obliged to be in quarantine and suddenly eating for me became almost impossible because I couldn’t go to work anymore. I was surprised by the phone call from EDD informing me about food support that I was not expecting receive in such global challenging time, after receiving such good news, I couldn’t wait to come, I went to EDD and was given 25 kg of maize flour, 10 kg of beans, 1 litter of cooking oil and 1 bar of soap. Therefore I am grateful for your support but especially for your generous attitude towards me”

Conclusively we thank you once again for your generosity and kindness and for choosing to contribute to our cause. We recognize that this is a difficult time for many people across the globe and so we are especially grateful for your support when there may be many other responsibilities on your shoulders. We are also aware there may be other initiatives that you feel called to help at this time.

Rest assured that you have positively impacted the lives of former street children who were at high risk of running back to the streets and that your contribution has mitigated this possible eventuality. We wish you and your loved ones good health, safety and the strength to navigate any challenges that you may encounter. We hope and pray that the world emerges from this crisis stronger and more peaceful.

First Purchase and Distribution of Food

Les Enfants de Dieu(EDD) in pernership with GlobalGiving would sincerely like to update you about the progress we are making together in supporting the most vulnerable people especially in this COVID-19 lockdown.

We, EDD family would like to wholeheartedly thank all of you for all of your support thus far for our “COVID19 Appeal” Help Feed Street-Children, as you have made donations, and shared with your friends and family. We are so grateful for your support; you are really making a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable.

Kindly be posted on what we have accomplished so far:

On 05 May 2020, EDD did all purchase for the food in order distribute all food and soaps for hygiene to the 29 families then 6^th May 2020 a food and sanitation items distribution day whereby we gave 25kg of maize flours, 13kg of beans, 1liter of oil and 2 bars of soaps for each family. Now all families have been successful reached.

Parents and children couldn’t believe on how the whole world thought about the life they are experienced and give them meals. It was a quick support in order to serve them as they were keeping calling staff and explaining the life threatening challenges they were facing. Children who are staying at the center are keeping in good health as they are being well nourished. You can see some of the photos!

Mum of Elisa’s story:

‘’My name is Nyirahabimana, a single mother of 3 children including Elisa. In normal life, we struggle to get the meals or other living means, as I usually do the casual works from our neighbors; This Covid-19 came when I had nothing in house for eating. I received a call from the center asking me to come and take my son. I said in my heart that , he is my son and I should go as I am seeing that this corona virus may affect children in the center when I arrived to the center, they paid my ticket and gave me food which become a big support to me. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting the food but EDD is nice family as they knew my life situation!

The meals made us pass days till to the time we run out of meals. I sold a small phone I had for small amount and used the amount for food. EDD tried to call to see if they can give me meals again in early 4^th May 2020 but my phone was not on because the above mentioned case. They missed by my phone for 3 days. I went to my neighbor and asked to put my Sim card and check the massages then saw a massage telling me to call the number came with a massage. I could didn’t think if it is from EDD. I called, then a woman answered a phone, she told me that they missed my phone for two days and had food for me. I told that probably they are mistaken to a number as I didn’t have any promise of food! She clarified that, she is from EDD and planned to assist us in this period of COVID. She told me that she gave others food and must find a shop near my home place and told about cost of maize flours, beans, oil and soaps. I told my children to keep praying till brought the food. I went direct to the shop and asked all the food details, and then she sent money on my Sim account. I don’t have enough words to explain my family joy! All kids they told me that they want to thank EDD, We are all calling Louise and thank them with the people who support them. It was a miracle and God founded a way while we didn’t know what we should eat in those days. Please express our heartfelt thanks to the rest of EDD team and all your donors and friends’’

We have raised almost 88% of our goal equivalent to nearly $8800 since launching the appeal on the globalgiving.
