As COVID-19 impacts the world, those most vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation are becoming more vulnerable. Increased poverty and economic strain is likely to pull children out of school, increasing their risk of exploitation. Children home and online for long periods increases the risk of online exploitation. The Freedom Story is distributing medical supplies, and non-perishable items to over 200 families at-risk of trafficking, and helping them earn income to stay out of poverty.
As COVID-19 impacts the world, those most vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation are becoming more vulnerable. Poverty, low levels of education and a lack of awareness of rights all put children at risk. As a result of COVID-19, poverty is increasing, and the economic strain is likely to pull children out of school if nothing is done. Children home and online for long periods increases the risk of online exploitation. Marginalized families in Northern Thailand are facing greater risk.
The Freedom Story is distributing hygiene products, including face masks and hand sanitizer to at-risk communities. We are also distributing non-perishable items ensure that those at-risk, who have lost jobs and essential sources of income continue to have enough to eat. We are helping find sustainable employment for those who have lost their jobs.
By investing in the education & development of these at-risk children, we not only prevent them from becoming victims of exploitation, but we free them to succeed, rise from poverty, & change the future for their families, their children, & beyond. These children are a new generation with the tools and understanding to become Thailand's future leaders.
