American students sexually assaulted abroad often don't have money to be able to pay for counseling. Or they may be minors and are afraid to tell their parents. With this project we will have funds to be able to provide five counseling sessions for up to 10 study abroad victims of sexual assault utilizing our network of sliding scale counselors.
Counseling after a sexual assault is critical for the victim's long term recovery. Young American sexual assault victims would be able to receive counseling for a better mental health outcome.
We will be able to provide ten sexual assault victims with five counseling sessions each to help them on their road to recovery.
According to RAINN, 208 thousand rapes occur in the USA annually. If we apply the same population proportion to the 80 million Americans that travel overseas every year, there would be thousands of Americans raped in foreign countries annually. These victims need a confidential, anonymous portal of entry to seek assistance, and long term support as they navigate through complicated international components to overcome the worst experience of their lives.
